An informal list of Physics Related Web sites.
It is not intended that this should be anything other than a small selection of interesting sites - however if anyone has any additional site addresses I would be grateful to hear from them.
Should you wish to contact the
society or require general information please contact ASTRA
using the following Email address: Should you encounter any problems
with this Web
Page please
email: A number of educational based sites
concerning the subject of physics can be found listed under
the Educational Links page. Big
Bang Science - A
web version of PPARC's most popular publication, which
introduces particle physics, and especially the UK's role at
CERN. CCLRC
- The Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research
Council supports a wide-ranging research programme,
including particle physics and space science. CERN
- The world's leading laboratory for particle physics
and the major centre for UK research in this
field. DESY
- The German national laboratory at Hamburg, home to
HERA, the world's only electron-proton collider. European
Particle Physics Public Outreach
Network - a
European-wide network of professional particle physicists
which will act as a conduit for providing information and
resources useful in communicating particle physics to the
public and to schools. Guided
tour of Fermilab -
A virtual tour of this major US particle physics lab,
including descriptions of how accelerators and particle
detectors work. Also links to the Education Office where you
can find out about more about the many education projects at
Fermilab. Identifying
interesting events at LEP
- An interactive guide to working out what's happening
in events at CERN's major particle collider, including
various challenges with multiple-choice answers. More
on Science at SLAC
- Why do we need high energy beams? What is a linear
accelerator? Answers to these and other
questions. National
Particle Physics Masterclass 1999
- The High Energy Physics Group of the Institute of
Physics will be organising a series of one-day Masterclasses
in particle physics for 1999. The classes, which are aimed
at sixthformers studying physics, will be held at
universities and research laboratories throughout the
country. Particle
Physics in the UK
- The new web site with news and information about
particle physics, from schools to journalists to
professional physicists. PPARC
- Find out about the activities of the Particle Physics
and Astronomy Research Council. The site also has pointers
to other related web sites. QCD
and Particle Structure Network
- is coordinated by Durham University, is one of the
largest ever funded under this scheme. It brings together
more than 100 particle physics theorists from 18 European
institutions including those from three other UK
Universities, Cambridge, Edinburgh and Manchester. The
Network held its inaugural meeting at Durhamlast
month. SLAC
- The Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre in California,
site of the 2 mile long linear electron accelerator. There
is good introductory material under 'More on Science' at
SLAC
