The Schwiglhofer Trophy is awarded as an Aquajet Event during the International Rocketry Weedend which is usually held in Kelburn Country Park near Largs. The International Rocketry Weedend, which os normally held over the last weekend of August to coincide with the English August Bank Holiday, has a number of events with the Aquajet competitins, including the Open Aquajet Competition, normally being held on a Sunday afternoon.

ASTRA's Founder Oscar Schwiglhofer decided to sponsor a Trophy to encourage the building and flying of Aquajet rockets. The Trophy, which bears his name, is awarded to the team whose Aquajets have flown the furtherest distance. The distant travelled by each team rockets are added together to determine the team distance.

Each team comprises six members, each member flying only one Aquajet. The teams fly their Aquajets twice, with the team distance for each round being added together. The team with the largest combined distance at the end of the competition is the winner.
