Society News If you haven't
already done so
Should you wish to contact the
society or require general information please contact ASTRA
using the following Email address: Should you encounter any problems
with this Web
Page please
email: Perhaps one of the best pieces of
news received by ASTRA over the past number of years was the
granting of a sum of money totalling £3,302 by "Awards
For All", The small grant awarding body of The National
Lottery, to the Airdrie branch. This money, along with
£200 from Airdrie funds will enable us to purchase a
computer for the society. I have of writing received all
quotes and can say that the computer will be delivered to
ASTRA sometime around Mid September 1999. We have purchased
an Applemac G3/400MHZ/DVD, 128Mb with modem, printer,
software, etc. Don't worry all PC buffs, the computer can and
will run PC software as well As Mac Software. It is envisaged that this equipment
will be a useful tool in both educating the public and
running the society more efficiently. As of speaking, George McCue and
myself are arranging a visit by the local newspaper to the
Observatory in order to publicise our success. I will keep
all posted when this happens, so if you can, try and be
there and we'll wet the computer's head (or superdisc)
afterwards in the West End. Because of our success here, it is
worth noting that there are many other bodies around that
can provide us with grants. If any member has a good idea of
what we should do next to raise cash, I would be pleased to
hear from them. It is hoped that the Society News
page will be used to give members information about the
latest happenings within ASTRA. It may also be used by members to
pass on information of interest to other ASTRA members.
Please email any "news" items to Paul Clark.
