EDITORS: N96-50 NASA will hold two
aeronautics-related news briefings on Aug. 2 and 3 at the
annual Experimental Aircraft Association convention in
Oshkosh, WI. LoFlyte Program: Friday at 12:30 p.m.
EDT in the EAA Press Tent NASA and the Air Force will unveil a
jet-powered test aircraft built to demonstrate technologies
that will allow an aircraft's flight control system to learn
by mimicking the pilot's flight inputs. The
eight-foot-four-inch remotely-controlled aircraft is a Mach
5 "waverider," a hypersonic configuration that will be flown
subsonically in flight tests this August. The programme is
managed by the Langley Research Centre, Hampton, VA, and the
Air Force Wright Laboratory, with flight testing to be
conducted by the Dryden Flight Research Centre, Edwards, CA.
Scheduled briefing participants include Jim Hall, National
Transportation Safety Board chairman. General Aviation: Saturday at 11 a.m.
EDT in the EAA Press Tent A NASA and Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) general aviation research and
development media briefing will consist of the
following: - FAA-led Operation Helistar at
Atlanta Olympics (FAA and Langley). - NASA-led General Aviation
Propulsion Program (Lewis). - NASA-FAA National Design
Competition Awards (Langley and FAA). Participants will include Bob
Whitehead, NASA Associate Administrator for Aeronautics and
George Donohue, FAA Associate Administrator for
Research. Additional information may be
