undertaken by the members of the Airdrie Branch
include: Amateur
Astronomy:
the Airdrie branch regularly hold astronomy sessions using
the Airdrie
Public Observatory, which
houses a 6 inch Cooke refracting telescope. ASTRA operates
this one of only four public observatories in the Uk on
behalf of the district council. The Airdrie branch has a
keen group of local members interested in operating the
observatory. Amateur
Rocketry:
ASTRA has had a long standing interest in amateur rocketry.
Currently the Airdrie branch members maintain the society's
interest in this area, with rocket building workshops being
held locally and a presence of an Airdrie branch team at the
International Rocket Weekend, which is held every August in
Largs, (Scotland). The Airdrie Branch attempts to hold
regular talks on a wide range of interests. Guest speakers
have been known to the 'volunteered' into a number of
