EMAILING
WHY?
The skydiving club revolves around the use of email - it's easy, cheap and fast. If you want to get the most from the club, check your email regularly!

Over 100 people give us their email addresses during Fresh, and so we don't get everyones right (Especially when Joel types them up) and so some people will not be on the mailing list. Follow the instructions lower on the page to add yourself to the list, or, failing that, email me on bristol@skydiveworld.com to let me know.

It is customary for club members with their own transport to offer lifts to members wishing to do repeat jumps. It is also customary for people given lifts in this way to pay £5 each towards petrol costs! Therefore mail the club on bristol@skydiveworld.com and your message will be forwarded on to let other people know if you can give a lift, or if you want one yourself.

YOUR ADDRESS
If you don't know what your email address is look at your student card. There are two numbers on it - ignore your Library User Number (the long one). The other number is your 'reference number' for bristol. To work out your email address take your first and last initials, the second number and the last three, then add @bris.ac.uk. Completely logical. Obviously. Really easy to remember, too. Just remember - you are a name, not a number!

Example: John Smith, with student number of 9817327 will have an email address of js8327@bris.ac.uk.

If you have another email address, you can ask the skydiving club to use that instead.

MAJORDOMO
Bristol uses an email list system called Majordomo. When you join the club your email address will be added to the sky-diving list on Majordomo. Once on Majordomo you will receive any emails sent to the club.

For those of you who wish to get your hands dirty, you can use Majordomo to do several things. Majordomo receives commands on the first line of emails sent to it. To make this work, you send an email to majordomo@bris.ac.uk with one of the following commands (depending on what you want to do) on the first line of the email:

subscribe sky-diving unsubscribe sky-diving who sky-diving These commands will let you subscribe to the list, unsubscribe and to get a list of all the other member's email addresses.
EMAIL THE CLUB
All emails sent to the sky-diving list will be sent to the secretary first for approval, then sent on to the club if appropriate. This avoids slanging matches between individuals being broadcast to the entire club (a problem with email lists) as these can be filtered out. If you have a good reason for emailing the club regularly, and are trustworthy, email me on bristol@skydiveworld.com and I will provide you with a password.
