I admit it. I'm a sucker for a 2.35:1 widescreen transfer. The fact that I actually like 'The Electric Horseman' made this an easy purchase. Though this was never what would be considered a blockbuster, MCA has, none the less, come up with an excellent transfer. I have commented before on the consistantly high quality transfers on the MCA/Universal label (you can find so-called THX quality as far back as 1990 with the letterboxed transfer of 'The Thing'). This disc is no exception. Colors are solid and accurate without a trace of chroma noise. Brightness and contrast are excellent. The image is crisp with very good detail. The colorist here knows what film should look like on video. The framing is very close to Panavision-perfect, about 2.25:1.
The soundtrack is mono with excellent dynamics and clarity. The recording has such depth in fact, I at first thought it was stereo.
The film runs 120 minutes and has been spread to 3 sides with 33 chapter markers. Sides 1 and 2 in CLV and side 3 in CAV. List price is $39.95. Recommended.
