Although little of Manto's work is known outside India
and Pakistan, he remains one of the world's major short story
writers. The stories selected for development here comment on
the bloody period of the partition of the subcontinent as a
result of independence from British rule. At the Watermans Arts

BAPS - COMMEMORATE PROFESSOR
ABDUS SALAM
The British Association for Pakistan Studies holds a
special meeting to commemorate Professor Abdus Salam, the
Pakistani Nobel Laureate in Physics, at
5.00pm at
The High Commission for Pakistan,
35 Lowndes Square, London SW1. The meeting will be presided
over by HE Mr Moeen Jan Naim, Acting High Commissioner.
Speakers will include: Prof Tom Kibble, Imperial College,
