John
Aubrey (1626
- 1697)
Antiquary
and author of Brief Lives, Aubrey had
many friends including Ashmole, Lilly, Gadbury
and Coley. His collection of informal
biographies have been used many times, but what
is often not realised is that he collected birth
data to go alongside them. Unfortunately, none
of those who have edited and published his work
have presented that information. The edition by
Richard Barber for the Folio Society reproduces
the opening page of Aubrey's account of his own
life which contains his nativity.

The data are 11
March 1625/6 OS, 5.14.44 am, latitude 51°30N (Malmesbury,
Wiltshire). Harvey quotes Coley as having used
this time, but seems unaware of Aubrey's own
representation of his nativity (above).
The
following is a reproduction of the chart in
modern form, although the above chart is
incomplete having no house cusp positions other
than the Ascendant and 3rd house, and Moon,
Jupiter and Saturn have also been omitted. The
recalculated positions (planets are marked
"comp.") have been inserted and
rounded to reflect these omissions.
