Sir Dudley Digges - 1585 - 1647AD
Sir Dudley Digges through marriage to a daughter of
Thomas Kempe of Olantigh came to own Chilham Castle Estate.
He built the present Castle and a chapel in the Church,
which was altered in the rebuilding of the chancel in 1863.
Sir Dudley became Master of the Rolls and a member of the
High Commission. For some 200 years after his death he was
remembered locally for an annuity of £20 which was left as
prize money for races between the men and women of the
parish on the 19 May, his birthday.
