Quintus Laberius Durus - 50
Quintus Laberius Durus lies buried on Juliberrie Down on
the opposite side of the river to Chilham. He was a tribune
killed during one of the first violent battles with the
Britons in 50 BC. High upon Juliberrie Down there lies a
burial ground known as Juliberrie Grave (barrow). This
burial mound was probably built by Neolithic people for a
Celtic chief some three thousand years ago contemporary with
the building of Stonehenge.
