Henry II - 1171

The Chilham Castle of which we see today only the Keep remains was first built by Henry II and there are references to the expenditure on its construction in the Great Roll of the Pipe, preserved at the Public Record Office. The building at Chilham began in 1171 and the Castle was garrisoned in 1173. The expenditure amounted to £325.
