"Tom's Flight from Cancer:"
Christmas Day 1998.
On December 25th a very special event is happening. In conjunction with the Teenage Cancer Trust and the generosity of Mr. Richard Branson there is to be a pecial 'around-Britain flight' on that day. It will a party all the way and we will have a turkey lunch at 35,000 feet. However this is not just about tom's journey it is one that symbolises the move through adolescence to adulthood, when which is already rocky and steep and made tough by the thorns of cancer.
"Tom's Flight from cancer' will hopefully be a chance for young people to share their experiences and help one another on their individual journeys. It will also be a opportunity for families to join together and share their experiences; for Cancer is not just a disease that affects the individual that gets it but also those around that person.
The flight will raise awareness of the issues associated with teenagers/adolescents/young people with cancer. Ften when people think of cancer they have images of small children and of elderlry folk. Unfortunately they sometimes forget the six foot straapping lads or the pretty teenage girls.
"Tom's Flight from Cancer" is a way of raising public awareness and saying,
'YES, TEENAGERS GET CANCER TOO!'
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE IT WILL ALSO BE A LOT OF FUN!
IT WILL, OF COURSE BE A CHANCE TO HAVE A GOOD PARTY!!!
WE WILL BE WAVING, SO REMEMBER US ON THE 25TH WHNE FIFTY YOUNG ADULTS AND THEIR FAMILIES WILL BE FLYING HIGH ON THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME!
